Good day to you traveler!

Welcome to the beautiful Shire of Druim Doineann (pronounced - droom doy-nee-ann) in the magnificent Kingdom of An Tir. We are located on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington covering the counties of Clallam and Jefferson. The populace has membership with The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. Come play with us where the mountains greet the sea!

Relive the Middle Ages with us! Dance a stately pavanne, enjoy a hearty feast, learn the arts of calligraphy and illumination to create elegant scrolls, participate in a tournament of arms - leave the twentieth century behind and journey into the Middle Ages.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) brings forward in time the pageant and spectacle of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Members of the SCA make the Middle Ages come alive by re-creating the clothing, food, drink, crafts, pastimes, combat, and everyday life in Europe before 1600.

Unlike many re-creation groups, the SCA does not recreate specific events or people. Each participant is free to explore whatever aspects of early life he or she finds most interesting.

This is creative anachronism. Rather than modeling the Society on a specific historical time and place, the SCA lets each person interpret history as it pertains to the individual. Creative anachronism permits the cook to use a modern stove, and more importantly, the modern dishwasher, it lets the tailor use a sewing machine for parts of the clothing that do not show; it allows women to fight with men, even to with the Crown by right of arms. The purpose of the SCA is to enjoy the Current Middle Ages. For some, this means recreating a musical instrument that is historically accurate, including materials, tools, techniques, and presumably, the sound. Others are content to play their music with a recorder purchased at a store.

In the Society, both are welcome; the only requirement is participation. Education is the foundation of the SCA. Members continually research the SCA period; sometimes examining artifacts in museums to see how they were made, at other times pouring over manuscripts written in the Middle Ages and preserved over time. Some manuscripts have been translated into English only by members of the SCA; others have been published only within the Society. This information is disseminated to the Society as a whole, through newsletters, workshops, or the SCA publications, Tournaments Illuminated and The Compleat Anachronist, which are sent to members throughout the world.

Participation is the key to having fun. The SCA is not a play to be watched; but, an experience to be enjoyed. You, too, can participate and live in the Current Middle Ages.

Traditionally, the Shire of Druim Doineann holds these events each year…

Holly & Ivy Ithra - February 16, 2008 - Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Rd - Gardiner - is an Arts & Sciences 'School' allowing the gentles of the shire to compete in the gentler arts and/or take classes to learn and/or hone new skills. This is when the Arts & Sciences Championship is determined, currently held by Lady Beatrix Powson of Ravenstonedale.

Maypole - April 25-27 - Clallam County Fairgrounds - L Street - Port Angeles - is the public demonstration and celebration for spring - it is also the home of 'The Tournament for the Mace' - the shire's heavy armored combat championship, currently held by Lord Palladius Aurelius.

Hot Summer Lights - August 1-3, 2008 - Peninsula Long Rifle Range - Sequim - holds the championship tournaments for Archery & Rapier - these titles are held by Aedan of Bilberry Manor and HL Morrigan Graham respectively.

Events are held at various locations throughout the Known World and the Kingdom of An Tir. Refer to the Kingdom newsletter 'The Crier' or the Event Calendar at www.antir.sca.org and follow the links to 'Upcoming Events'.
